Eczema is a type of skin disease that infects the skin causing intense itching sensation and other hazards to the skin due to constant rubbing and scratching of the affected area. Eczema is not restricted to any age or gender even newborn babies can suffer from infant eczema especially those infants whose parents have the problem of eczema. Infant eczema or atopic dermatitis brings along other allergic conditions like hay fever and asthma, which increases the suffering of the baby. Normally during infancy, a baby may develop rashes on the face, in the creases of the hands and legs or on the neck, which is not infant eczema.
However, if there is a history in the family of any of the parent suffering from eczema then adoption of special care and precautionary measures by the parents is essential if their baby develops redness of the skin or rashes as it may lead to infant eczema. It is easy to detect infant eczema as the rashes may look like acne but if it is infant eczema, then oozing of yellowish color fluid from the rashes will occur and form dry crust on the affected area, which is a clear sign of infant eczema. If you observe any type of unusual crust or oozing from the rashes on your baby’s affected areas then you should immediately consult a dermatologist to find out whether it is infant eczema or some other type of skin infection. Infant eczema does not require any kind of medication as most of the infants suffering from infant eczema get relief from this disease as they grow up.
However, as they had suffered from infant eczema during their infancy they have the tendency of dry skin and so have to take special precautionary measures in adulthood so that the infancy problem does not recur in adulthood. Infant eczema can easily trigger by allergens especially in those infants who are vulnerable to this disease due to hereditary reasons. These allergens, found both in the environment and in the food taken by the infant could cause infant eczema to develop in the infant. Sometimes, infants also develop eczema on the scalp, which is a very common occurrence, and commonly known as cradle cap does not persist for a long period but vanishes within a short time without the use of any kind of medication. Therefore, if the infant develops any kind of unusual rashes on the skin it is advisable to consult the dermatologist and obtain the proper diagnosis.
